Artists are exhibiting class work

COLTNESS Art School are showing off their skills at an exhibition which is currently being held in Wishaw Library.

The group have produced sketches, watercolours and acrylic pieces – including scenes of the Scottish Highlands and floral paintings.

Hugh Frame, secretary of the group said: “A lot of people do their thing and sometimes take inspiration from other artists or even from things they have seen in newspapers and magazines.”

Hugh has taken inspiration from Scottish artist Jack Vettriano in a tribute called Mister Cool.

He said: “Inspiration can come from anywhere.”

The exhibition features work such as the painting entitled Come On Gran, It’s Not Cold, a lovely painting of a grannie and child at the seaside.

Another painting is called And They’re Off, a humorous painting of three men on bikes.

The exhibition has some work for sale.

However, first of all, potential buyers are advised to come along and have a look at all of the pictures which are hanging in the library.

Added Hugh: “The exhibition is really to display work rather than to sell as a lot of family members already want the pictures.”

The group, in which the members pay their own way, has been running for many years and is believed to be the longest-running art class in the area.

It has between 15 to 25 members of varying ages.

The class is taught by experienced artist Tom Melville on Tuesday nights from 7pm to 9pm in Coltness High School.

New members are welcome along to the group.

ART’S THE WAY: Robert McPherson and one-year-old grand-daughter Lucy McPherson enjoyed the art exhibition at Wishaw Library.JDWSH141108wishawart-1.
