WISHAW’S Volunteer Centre is joining in this week’s national celebrations to mark 25 years of Volunteers’ Week.
The event takes place this week from Monday until Sunday, June 7 with the aim of recognising, rewarding and celebrating the good work carried out by millions of individuals, teams and organisations across the UK involved with volunteering.
And the Wishaw-based Volunteer Centre North Lanarkshire is helping coordinate a number of events to promote the silver anniversary.
A central location for volunteering activity will be the former Presbyterian Church premises in Wishaw town centre, which the Volunteer Centre has transformed into a modern voluntary and community hub facility for the town.
Mary McNeil, manager of the Volunteer Centre, said: “The facilities inside the former church building include two spacious halls, a computer suite with internet access and the grounds also includes the former Manse building and a large garden area.
“The hub has proved to be one of the most popular and successful social enterprise ventures for volunteering and community development in North Lanarkshire.
“We’re delighted that the Voluntary and Community Hub can be a part of Volunteers Week festivities for 2009.
“Volunteers’ Week provides us with a great opportunity to recognise the excellent and often unsung efforts of thousands of volunteers across the towns and villages of North Lanarkshire.”
