LADIES with a passion for fashion dressed to impress – and raised £1000 for Wishaw-based cancer charity Maggie’s Lanarkshire.
The One Gender Many Cultures fashion show saw women from across Wishaw and Motherwell model a range of clothes reflecting a range of cultural backgrounds.
Arranged by a Lanarkshire multi-ethnic community group called Humjolie, the event was held at the Hilton Strathclyde in Bellshill and saw around 30 ladies strut their stuff on the catwalk before a 180 strong sell-out audience.
Anila Ansari, one of the members of the Humjolie team and a community health educator for NHS Lanarkshire, said: “This fabulous fashion show not only gave Lanarkshire women the chance to get involved and raise awareness of the work of a valued charity, it was also an opportunity for women from different cultural backgrounds to come together and promote community cohesion and celebrate diversity.”
She added: “With Indian classical dance, Irish dance, a female DJ playing pop, bhangra and Bollywood music, and various raffle prizes, it proved to be a great night.
“I’m glad efforts helped raise such a fantastic total for a good cause.”
Julie Burns, community fundraiser for Maggie’s Lanarkshire, said: “We’re extremely grateful to everyone who took part in the fashion show as it was a fantastic night. To raise over £1000 is wonderful and will make a significant difference to the lives of those affected by cancer in Lanarkshire.”
