Wishaw Juniors get into gear for new season

WISHAW Juniors were one of the first football teams back in pre-season training early last month and Wishaw Press photographer Jim Donnelly took in Saturday’s session at Smythycroft, Hamilton.Co-managers John Fallon and Alex Young were putting players through their paces having both returned from their summer holidays.Young said: “We have between 18-23 players turning up during the week and we are really happy with how things are shaping up.“We have been focusing on fitness and the players fitness levels are good.“Now it is a case of getting the players match sharp and that’s why we have arranged a number of friendlies.”The club’s first friendly sees them travel to Falkirk to take on Linlithgow Amateurs this weekend before matches against Blackburn and Blantyre Victoria. It is hoped by the time the Sectional League Cup begins next month they will have enough bounce games under their belt to target success in this traditionally low key early season competition.Meanwhile goalkeeper Glen Weir looks set to leave the club and could join Forth Wanderers in the coming week.It follows the signing of promising stopper Danny Gallacher from Thorniewood United.Teenager Gallacher has recently been training with Motherwell Football Club and will continue to be monitored by the SPL outfit whilst playing in Central District Division Two with Wishaw.Young, 48, continued: “We are really excited about the new season.“Defender Alan Fleming has signed which is pleasing as he gives us a bit of height at the back and is also is a threat going forward at set pieces.“Danny Gallacher has been signed and there are another couple of goalkeepers we are looking at.“We have got 13 signed so far but are looking to sign a few more that we have been eyeing up over the last few weeks.“Some players you want to watch in a game situation as opposed to just in pre-season training.”David Lynch has re-signed for the new season but work commitments will mean the forward will be heading north later this year and a deal has already been agreed with Aberdeenshire outfit Banks O’Dee FC.Wishaw Juniors have agreed sponsorship deals with Emtec Group, Beaver 84 and CLM Roofing for the forthcoming season with more deals expected to be concluded soon.
