CARLUKE man Raymond Warbropper will be treating his kids to the holiday of a lifetime – after he scooped £3000 by tracking down the Real Radio Renegade last week.
The family were already jetting out to Florida in a couple of weeks but the 33-year-old has splashed the cash so his three children can go swimming with dolphins.
Kind-hearted Raymond said: “We were going to Florida in a fortnight’s time anyway but now I’ve sorted it so that the children can go swimming with the dolphins when they are there. I’ll just let them spend the money, I think.”
That means Gemma (12), Natalie (11), and one-year-old Steven will have a holiday to remember all because their quick-thinking dad managed to track down the elusive radio celebrity.
Raymond became the final person to track down the Real Radio Renegade this year and win himself a cool £3000 in the process.
Listeners to Real Radio were given clues as to the mystery Renegade’s whereabouts, with picture clues being posted at online. All they had to do to win the bounty was ask a very simple question, to the right person: “Are you the Real Radio Renegade?”Š If they were right and managed to track down the Renegade, they then won the bounty on his head, which was anything from £1000 to £9200.
Taxi driver Raymond, who works with United Taxis in Motherwell, admitted to chasing the Renegade for the best part of three weeks, saying: “Me and my mate picked up the search when the Renegade was in Partick, Glasgow, and we’ve been on his tail ever since.
“I’ve gone out looking for him every time the competition has been on Real Radio, but this is the first time I’ve actually managed to track him down.”
When the dad-of-three heard the Renegade was hiding out at The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow, he hot-footed it over there from Carluke, hoping no-one would get to him first!
He added: “I didn’t think I would make it over from Carluke before he got caught, but seeing as it was the last day I thought I’d give it a go.ŠI got to the hotel and just started running around trying to find him.
“My friend called me to say the Renegade had said on the radio that he was in the fire escape, so I ran in there, found him, and just managed to ask him before someone else did.”
After a nail-biting search, Raymond was officially crowned the last Renegade winner of this season’s competition. Real Morning’s presenter Paul Harper was delighted the last winner was on his show, saying: “It was a really exciting end to the competition and I’m chuffed for Raymond and his family.ŠIt sounds like they are going to make fantastic use of the money. I wonder if they have room for one more in their suitcase?”
Sir Arnold Clark commented, “My congratulations go to Raymond.Š It was great to see £1000’s won.”
