AROUND 100 Lanarkshire volunteers attended a special event to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the NHS.
It was organised to recognise the efforts of the individuals who give up some of their time to support a variety of voluntary projects or initiatives.
The health board’s voluntary services manager Katrina Murray said she had “the best job in the world” as it allowed her to meet so many committed and unselfish people.
Paying tribute to all those who volunteer in Lanarkshire, she said: “We’re blessed to have so many wonderful people who are willing to give up some of their time.
“This event was organised to allow us to say a thank you to them and to all the NHS volunteers who have given some of their time down the years.”
NHS Lanarkshire chair, Ken Corsar added: “Volunteers make an invaluable contribution to the NHS in Lanarkshire and an event such as this gives me and the organisation the chance to say to many of them face-to-face, thank you very, very much for your efforts.”
The event was held in South Lanarkshire Council’s banqueting hall, but volunteers from across the region, including may from Wishaw and the surrounding areas, were there.
Hugh Sweeney, NHS Lanarkshire employee director and organiser of NHS Lanarkshire’s 60th anniversary celebrations, said: “It was a pleasure and a delight to meet so many of the volunteers.”
