Shotts bowlers aid heart care unit

WISHAW General’s Hospital coronary care unit has been bowled over by the kindness shown by members of Shotts Ironworks Bowling Club.

The sports club raised £8500 at their annual fundraising day and the committee decided to hand it over to the hospital.

Jim Galloway, secretary for the club’s charity day, said: “Quite a few of our members have had a bypass or other treatment in ward four and we wanted to thank the staff at Wishaw General Hospital for their good work.

“This is the eleventh year we’ve held this fundraising day.

“We invite local businesses and individuals to pay for a team to play and this includes their breakfast, lunch and dinner.

“We then hold raffles and an auction in the evening.

“We’d like to thank everyone who took part and made donations, especially The Royal Bank of Scotland who donated £1000.”

Heather Liddell, clinical co-ordinator at the CCU, thanked the bowling club for their generosity.

She said: “On behalf of everyone at the CCU, I would like to thank Jim and the Shotts Ironworks Bowling Club for their very kind donation.

“The money will be used within cardiology and will enable the unit to purchase a portable monitor, which will be used with the transfer of acutely unwell patients.”
