Scammers targeted by scheme

TRADING Standards watchdogs have launched Scamnesty – an initiative to fight postal, telephone and online scams.

Trading Officers have placed special bins in libraries, consumer advice centres and First Stop Shops across Motherwell and Wishaw, for people who have received dubious letters, phone calls or emails, to drop the details into them.

The information will then be used by consumer protection staff to strike back at the scammers.

“Scamnesty encourages people to take positive action,” said Alan Murdoch, a consumer advice expert with North Lanarkshire Council.
