Cops investigate "unexplained" attack

POLICE are investigating an attack on a 28-year-old man in Wishaw on Sunday night.

Kevin McCaig, of Newmains, had been in the Cross Keys Inn, Stewarton Street, prior to the incident.

He was found with serious head injuries at 11.30pm at the entrance to Young Street, opposite the pub.

Mr McCaig is currently receiving treatment in Wishaw General Hospital, where his condition is described by medical staff as “serious.”

The incident has been described by police as “unexplained” and officers are studying CCTV footage in an attempt to ascertain exactly what happened to Mr McCaig.

Detective Inspector John Lamb, the officer in charge of the investigation, said: “Inquiries are at an early stage and we are trying to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident, or anyone with information which may assist police inquiries to contact Wishaw police office on (01698) 202600.
