CARLUKE Leisure Centre has been awarded four-star visitor attraction status by Visit Scotland.
The accolade comes just a few months after the centre re-opened following an extensive £3m refurbishment.
Roughly 15,500 visitors have come through the doors of the centre since the re-opening, to take advantage of facilities.
These include a vastly improved gym and fitness suite, crèche and beauty studio.
There is also a new café bar, improved disabled facilities and a dance studio.
Quality advisors from the national tourism organisation visited the centre last month and offered wide praise across the board.
The following areas were particularly singled out for commendation:
l Equipment and access for those with disabilities.
l Provision of a kitchen in the function area.
l Baby changing area in the new crèche.
l Standard and variety of meeting rooms.
l High standard of décor and cleanliness throughout.
l Friendly, efficient and smartly-dressed staff.
l Well-stocked café with healthy options.
South Lanarkshire Council and South Lanarkshire Leisure Ltd, took the opportunity to upgrade the centre after Carluke High School – of which it was previously a part – moved into a new school building nearby.
