Crimebeat for week ending February 7, 2010

POLICE have launched an appeal for witnesses after a woman was knocked to the ground and robbed of £270 in a Wishaw lane.

The 24-year-old was mugged in an incident which occurred between 10.30am and 11.15am on Friday, February 5, in the lane between Main Street and Wishaw Library.

The attacker stole her cream-coloured handbag and contents.

TOYS were stolen from a wooden hut at the rear of Belhaven Nursery, on Belhaven Terrace. Items taken were a child’s large yellow Caterpillar tractor valued at £100, a blue racing bike worth £50 and a £50 red racing bike.

The incident occurred between 4pm on Friday, January 29, and 8.30am on Monday, February 1. Any information to Constable Alyson Duncan at Wishaw Police office on (01698) 202600.

VEHICLE crime continues throughout the area. A gold Peugeot 207, valued at £14,000, was stolen from outside a house in Shankly Drive, Morningside, between 11.30pm on Monday, February 1, and 8am the following morning.

A silver Fiat Punto, valued at £2000, was stolen from outside a house in Lomond Drive, Pather, Wishaw, between 8.15pm and 9.30pm on Wednesday, February 3. Contact Constable Graham McDonald at Wishaw Police office on (01698) 202600.

A red Renault Modis, valued at £3600, was stolen during a break-in at the owner’s home in Caledonian Road, Wishaw, between 1.30am and 7am on Saturday, February 6. The vehicle was later found burned out in Dimsdale.

A black Mini Moto quad bike was stolen from the garden of a house in Hawthorn Avenue, Newmains, between 3 and 8pm on Thursday, February 4. Call Wishaw Police office on (01698) 202600.

A black Mercedes Elegance was stolen from outside a house in Huntly Terrace, Shotts, between 3.30pm on Thursday, January 28, and 10am the following morning. Contact Constable Higgins at Shotts Police office on (01501) 820506.

A red Vauxhall car was stolen from a car park at Netherwood Tower, Motherwell, between 2.45pm and 10pm on Monday, February 1. Contact PC McKinlay at Wishaw Police office on (01698) 202600.

A GANG of women kicked a 24-year-old female victim on the head and body as they robbed her of a three-figure sum of cash at a bus stop in Windmillhill Street, Motherwell.

They struck at 10.50am on Monday, February 1. The victim also had her handbag stolen.

One of the females was described as aged between 17 to 19 years old, 5ft 10ins tall, with brown straight hair and wearing a white and grey tracksuit. She was also described as having silver hooped earrings and a large Playboy necklace.

BETWEEN 12.30pm and 3.10pm on Tuesday, February 2, an attempt was made to break into a property at Juno Street, Motherwell.

Two youths were seen in the rear garden. The first was described as 16 years old, 5ft 7ins tall, of slim build and wearing a red and blue beanie hat and tracksuit. The second was described as being of a similar age and height, of stocky build and wearing a tracksuit and white trainers.

AT 5am on Thursday, February 4, a house in Roman Road, Motherwell, was broken into.

A small amount of cash was taken before the suspects were disturbed by the householder.
