THIS weekend a Wishaw pub singer became an overnight sensation – and is now being dubbed this year’s Susan Boyle.
Janey Cutler’s Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) audition has quickly become an internet phenomenon with over three quarters of a million people viewing so far.
Janey – who is a mum of seven, gran to 13 and great-grandmother to four children – has lived in Wishaw most of her life and used to work in the Pickering steel works, now Pickering’s Corner.
Born in 1929, Janey grew up during World War Two. She was 16 by the time Nazi Germany was defeated in 1945.
Prior to performing on BGT, Janey performed in pubs across Lanarkshire.
According to reports, the great-grandmother has turned down offers from high-profile shows in North America because she doesn’t want to leave Tara, a 12-year-old Border Collie.
Speaking to Philip Schofield during ITV’s This Morning show on Monday, Janey said: “I'd hate the thought of leaving my wee dog.”
Britain’s Got More Talent host Stephen Mulhern asked Janey at the weekend if she thought she had a better voice than Susan Boyle. She said: “I don’t count myself better than anyone else, I just do what I do and that’s it. As long as the big man up there looks after me, that’s enough for me!”
