Wishaw’s Janey Cutler sets the world on fire

WISHAW’S very own Janey Cutler set the world on fire with her stunning voice this week.

For the 81-year-old songstress gave an awe-inspiring performance of Edith Piaf's Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien (No Regrets) on Saturday night’s episode of Britain’s Got Talent.

Millions tuned in to watch Janey as she earned a spot in the next round of the competition with three nods from judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan.

The internet video of her audition is becoming an online sensation with over 770,000 hits so far.

Janey answered her door to us yesterday – but explained she was too exhausted to speak at length.

She said: “You’re my local newspaper and Wishaw’s always going to be Wishaw. I was born here.

“But, right now, I’m just far too exhausted from everything.”

Understandably so. Janey had travelled from Wishaw to London and back again doing interviews for This Morning, CBS news, and other TV programmes.

Daughter Janice said the whole family was “proud” of her.

She said: “It was brilliant seeing her on the TV and we’re all really happy for her. We’re so proud. Everything’s fine and we’re just hoping for the best right now. Fingers crossed.”

Neighbour Edward Kearney described Janey as a “very motherly” woman.

“She is a very, very pleasant person and is always laughing,” he said.

“I just speak to her in the passing. She did pretty well on the television.”

Neighbour Billy Clark said that she was a “very nice” person. He said: “I don’t really watch Britain’s Got Talent, but I did watch it the other night.

“What was on it, that’s Janey, there was no kidding on there. That was Janey with the wee laugh. I’ve a lot of time for Janey. She’s a very nice person.”

Janey will now advance to the next rounds of the competition which will be shown on Britain’s Got Talent later in the year.
