Motherwell hospitality students land award

A WISHAW man is one of three students who have been rewarded for their outstanding efforts while studying for an HNC in Hospitality at Motherwell College.

Chef Ross Hunter (34), who has worked in many well-known hotels and restaurants throughout the county, demonstrated great dedication to, and enthusiasm for, the class work he undertook during the year-long course.

Ross, along with fellow students James Donnelly (20), and Angela Robertson (45), volunteered to work extra hours at a variety of themed functions held in the college training restaurant, ML1, to gain experience and support second year colleagues.

The trio were thanked for their hard graft by Motherwell College head of hospitality David Aikman, who presented each student with a £25 Amazon gift voucher.

Mr Aikman said: “The college regularly run very popular themed evenings – such as James Bond, St Andrew’s evening and a wartime themed night – in the training restaurant, ML1. At these events, the students get practical experience of what it will be like when they leave with their qualifications to take up work in the hospitality industry.

“Ross, James and Angela volunteered at every opportunity. They were so enthusiastic we decided to establish an award event for students who go the extra mile during their training. They definitely deserve to be the first to be recognised in this way.”

All three are aiming to go on to study for the BA in Hospitality Management which will enable them to seek senior or assistant management positions in hotels, restaurants and other hospitality outlets.

An open day will be held on Thursday, August 5, between noon and 7pm showcasing courses available within the college.
