New Town Skip Hire
A DELIBERATE fire at a Motherwell recycling yard has caused damage estimated at £500,000.
Such was the ferocity of the blaze in the secure compound of New Town Skip Hire in Albert Street that firefighters took almost eight hours to extinguish the flames.
Emergency services were called to the incident at around 2.30am on Sunday and found equipment in the yard “well ablaze”.
Around 20 firefighters dealt with the fire and crews were at the scene until 10am.
Police are seeking two men wearing dark clothing who were seen setting light to rubbish in the yard.
Detective Sergeant Scott Wilson said: “The premises are owned by a recycling company and the damage is mainly to a high value piece of machinery which is estimated to be worth half-a-million pounds.
“Officers are checking the extensive CCTV from the yard and carrying out inquiries in the area.
“It is possible someone may have seen something suspicious in the area before the fire or after the incident.”
