Councillor Sam Love
Wishaw residents are calling for the head of Councillor Sam Love as his “out-of-touch” comments about the struggling town centre continue to reverberate around Main Street.
Our story – in which Councillor Love claimed Wishaw’s town centre businesses are no worse off now than they were before the Streetscape project began in April - is still generating a wave of response from angry constituents.
Shop owners in the town have been vocal in their plight as they’ve fought against a massive decline in sales, with businesses reporting losses of 35 per cent, going entirely against Councillor Love’s beliefs.
Wishaw residents are now saying one thing - enough is enough.
David Thomson was one reader who got in touch.
He said: “That councillor should be sacked with immediate effect for spouting unfounded and unconfirmed information. It’s still a case of NLC trying to cover for mistakes they know they have made.
“He is a public servant not serving the public.”
Stuart Morton echoed David, saying: “Typical comment from a so-called public servant. Sack him now.”
Stewart Black told us: “Councillor Love should have been more professional and thought before he spoke. As a councillor he should know his constituency better. His comments actually come across as if he doesn’t care too much for Wishaw. He should be supporting the small businesses instead of brushing the problems with trade under the carpet.”
We would have once again contacted Councillor Love for a response, but, as reported last week, Mr Love has instructed us never again to get in touch.
Elllie Weir picked up on that issue and told us: “I think it’s shocking that Councillor Love has requested that the Wishaw Press do not contact him again – he is supposed to be serving the people.
“Heads should roll for this disgusting attitude by NLC.”
