Crimebeat: Blaze guts top floor of building

Police are conducting a joint investigation with Strathclyde Fire and Rescue into what lies behind a blaze that engulfed a derelict top-floor flat on Kylemore Crescent, Motherwell, on Sunday afternoon.

Fortunately, no-one was injured in the fire, which took hold at around 3pm. CCTV footage is now being reviewed.

Opportunist thieves struck at an address on Gala Crescent in Coltness last Friday morning, November 30, when a laptop was stolen.

The incident took place at 11.30am, and you can call Wishaw police on 01698 202600 if you have details about who was behind the theft.

Cigarettes were the target when an Overtown shop was broken in to at 11.30pm on the night of Saturday, December 1.

However, the activation of the premise’s alarm resulted in the raiders leaving empty-handed.

A similar incident occurred at the petrol station at the Tesco superstore on Belhaven Road. This attempted break-in took place just after midnight last Wednesday, on November 28.

Several windows on Birrens Road in Motherwell were smashed between 6pm on Saturday evening and the same time the following night.

A group of young people aged 12 to 16 are thought to be responsible.

Similarly, windows were smashed at Firpark School in Motherwell between Wednesday and Thursday last week. Vandals also smashed a stained glass window at a property on Cleland Road, Wishaw, at the weekend.

A family car parked on Elmwood Road in Shotts was set on fire during the early hours of Wednesday, November 28. Police and fire services responded to the blaze, which left the vehicle badly damaged.

Registration plates were stolen from a Ford Fiesta on Shottskirk Road in Shotts at the weekend.
