Actress Catherine Marshall
It has grossed over $2billion and been seen by nearly 45 million people worldwide – so no pressure on Wishaw teen Catherine Marshall when she takes to the stage next month to perform in A Tribute To Mamma Mia!
The theatrical phenomenon based on the music of Abba is a worldwide smash and she is helping bring this latest production to Lanarkshire.
And Super Trouper Catherine has been enjoying getting to know The Name of the Game as she tackles her first role.
The 19-year-old said: “We’ve been in rehearsals for a little while now and things are starting to ramp up before the performances.
“The rehearsals have been fantastic, all of the staff have been so good with us, getting us prepared. The team couldn’t be more helpful.”
Mamma Mia! tells the sunny, funny story of a young woman who is about to get married on a Greek island but can’t be walked down the aisle by her father as she doesn’t know who he is.
Believing one of her mother’s three former lovers is her father she invites all of them to the wedding.
However their sudden appearance on the island after 20 years is a surprise to the mother and from there Abba’s songs propel the enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship,
Catherine plays one of the mother’s friends, Rosie, and gets to sing Dancing Queen and Super Trouper.
She said: “The Abba songs are timeless but the story also has a lot of humour.”
When she’s not studying childcare at Anniesland College, Catherine has been throwing herself into rehearsals, adding: “I’ve never actually done anything like this before.
“I saw the adverts on social networking sites asking people to get involved so I went along to the audition and I got cast as Rosie.”
