FOLLOWING on from the success of last year’s event, Strathclyde Police will team up with tyre and exhaust dealers Cooper Brothers of Newmains for two evenings of women-only driver education and awareness.
Women are invited along to the garage – which is situated on the village’s Overtown Road – to pick up some basic car maintenance tips which could prove invaluable. Cooper Brothers’ trained staff will give advice on things like how to check tyres for tread wear and pressure, how to change a tyre and how to check a car’s water, oil and fluids.
Last year’s event proved a big hit with drivers.
The two forthcoming dates are Thursday, January 29, and Tuesday, February 24, between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
The groups will also be provided with a presentation on personal safety for the lone driver by crime reduction officer Constable Dougie Denholm of Wishaw Police office.
The driver safety advice will include topics such as motorway driving, breakdowns, safe parking and road rage.
The evening will be completed with a short quiz.
Constable Dougie Denholm said: “By highlighting a few personal safety tips to this group of drivers, it is hoped that they will be able to stay safe on the road.”
John Cooper added: “Our staff are only too pleased to help women have more confidence in their motoring and look forward to both events.”
Both events will be sponsored by the Wishaw Crime Prevention Panel.
Chairman Murdo Morrison commented: “Such evenings have in the past been extremely beneficial to those who have attended and our panel fully support Strathclyde Police and Cooper Brother in organising the events.”
