Tragedy after lorry hits park restaurant

EMERGENCY services rushed to Strathclyde Park on Monday afternoon after a lorry collided into the Toby Jug restaurant.

It is understood that the driver of the heavy goods vehicle collapsed at the wheel, and he later died after being taken to Monklands General Hospital.

A Strathclyde Fire spokesman said: “The Incident Commander, in conjunction with restaurant staff, instigated an immediate evacuation of the affected area, during which time it was discovered that a member of the public had sustained leg injuries caused by falling debris from the restaurant wall.”

The incident happened around 2.20pm on Monday, April 27, and the vehicle left the A725, mounted a grass verge and hit a parked car and the restaurant wall.
