Clyde Valley High news

Members of the parent council recently enjoyed a residential weekend at the Brownlee Centre in West Linton. On the Friday evening, members discussed possible future ventures for the council before enjoying a meal together. Despite torrential rain on Saturday morning members enthusiastically took part in a range of outdoor challenges and team-building activities. These included the Time Line and archery. This was the third parent council residential and members all agreed it has become an important cornerstone of the parent council programme. Read

Braidhurst High news

Braidhurst High last week welcomed Mr Antony Short, Head Teacher of Tabeetha School in Jaffa in Israel. This is a Church of Scotland school and Mr Short was visiting through a link with Hamilton Presbytery. As a former teacher of physical education, he was particularly interested and impressed by the facilities and activities in the sports comprehensive. Ruth Anderson, head of the sports comprehensive, conducted a guided tour and highlighted the curricular and extra-curricular activities on offer. Kathryn Clarke, senior depute head teacher then gave him a guided tour of the rest of the school with the Rector Derrick Hannan covering a wide range of Scottish education topics. Read

Our Lady’s High news

The under-16 football team kept up their good form with two victories in as many weeks. On October 28, the boys fought back from a 1-0 deficit at half time to defeat St Maurice’s 6-1 in Cumbernauld with goals from Kieran Kennedy, Paul Swinfen, Christopher Murray and a hat-trick from Craig Queen. On November 4 the boys secured the three points in a hard-fought 2-0 victory at Airdrie Academy. Goals were scored by Connor O’Mara and Kieran Kennedy. Read

Bishop Devine came to St Aidan’s High School on November 6 to answer a variety of questions tabled by the S6 pupils. Read

Dalziel High news

The school was delighted with the final publication of the inspection report last week. The school received three excellent ratings and two very good, in the five areas reviewed by inspectors. Dalziel was described by inspectors as a “lively school which is committed to learning” with “high expectations and high levels of achievement.” Read

Coltness High news

The S3 parents’ evening is taking place this evening after school, Wednesday, November 19, from 4 to 6.30pm. A good turnout of parents/carers is expected, who will be given an update on the progress of their child in all subjects with the exception of English and maths. An information evening will be held for these subjects later in the year. Read
