The under-16 football team kept up their good form with two victories in as many weeks. On October 28, the boys fought back from a 1-0 deficit at half time to defeat St Maurice’s 6-1 in Cumbernauld with goals from Kieran Kennedy, Paul Swinfen, Christopher Murray and a hat-trick from Craig Queen. On November 4 the boys secured the three points in a hard-fought 2-0 victory at Airdrie Academy. Goals were scored by Connor O’Mara and Kieran Kennedy.

Back in June, a brave cohort of staff from OLHS took part in It’s a Knockout. This week, school captain, Cairan McCaroll, handed over a cheque for £1152 to Bob Reid of St Andrews’ Hospice.
The school’s wind band, conducted by James Woods, gained a silver award at the National Concert Band Festival held in Glasgow on Sunday, November 9. Well done to the entire band and their supporters for all their hard work and congratulations for a fantastic result.
The physics quiz team performed superbly in the grand final of the WoSPEG Livewire competition. They were neck and neck with Glasgow High up to the final round. A significantly large number of questions were on electricity and also astronomy (which they haven’t covered in class yet!) so the final result of third place is even more laudable.
The school did exceptionally well this year as a school in the team event. S1 boys came second place, likewise S1 girls also came in silver medal position. S2 boys came in third place and S2 girls came fifth overall (although there were only a few points separating them from fourth and third positions). Many congratulations to the whole team.
Remembrance Day was marked with a two minute silence in Our Lady’s on the November 11. Sixth year pupils sold poppies around the school, and many staff and pupils took the opportunity to share stories about the First World War and later conflicts, sometimes involving family members.
Groups of pupils are organising parcels for senior citizens in the local area. There is a list of possible items for inclusion on the school website. Staff and pupils are also collecting boxes of chocolates and sweets which will be handed out closer to Christmas by pupil representatives.
First and second year pupils visit the LRC every fortnight, but on this occasion, their task was to select a book, not for themselves, but for another random member of the class. Pupils enjoyed trying to find something good to read for one of their peers.
HOSPICE CHEQUE: school captain, Cairan McCaroll handed over a cheque for £1152 to Bob Reid of St Andrews’ Hospice.
WELL DONE: the school’s wind band from Our Lady’s High, conducted by James Woods, gained a silver at the National Concert Band Festival.
