THE school are delighted with the follow-through HMIe inspection report published on May 5 and online at www.hmie.gov.uk. All parents should now have a copy via pupil post. Strengths of the school are stated as: High quality care and support in young people; Engagement of all staff in improving the school; Using tracking procedures effectively to improve young people’s performance; and Partnerships with parents.
SQA exams are now well under way. S3 pupils gained their first experience of SQA exams in Standard Grade Mathematics and English last week. S5 and S6 pupils will attend on Thursday, May 14, for classes and then begin study leave. English Intermediate, Higher and Advanced Higher exams are on Friday, May 15.
ALL at Coltness High offer congratulations to Valerie Barr, a very talented musician in S1. Valerie took part in a recent competition in Blackpool, where she became the British Accordion Championship for her age group. Valerie took third place for polka, and first for her musette enabling her to take first overall.
AFTER the two successful qualifying stages, the Under-13 Boys team finally lost out in the regional finals of the Coca-Cola 7s in Airdrie last week. Two draws and a defeat were just not enough to qualify for the national finals.
AROUND 60 pupils went through their paces in the Junior Maths Challenge on May 1. S1 and S2 pupils got down to some problem-solving questions and puzzles, all as part of a national competition, in the hope of being awarded certificates and recognition.
ON Tuesday, April 24, Graham Lang, Calum Muir and Nicole Muir took part in the NLC Golf Championships hoping to defend the title won by Scott Campbell last year at Dullatur Golf Club, Cumbernauld. In cold and windy conditions, all performed fairly well with Calum scoring 32 points, Graham 28 points and Nicole 25 points in the Stableford team competition.
THE S3 SVS class are currently planning a French Cafe event on May 13 at morning interval. Staff will be offered a hot drink and croissant, all helping to raise funds for the class’ future events.
