Firpark School pay tribute to depute head teacher Irene

STAFF at Firpark School, Motherwell, paid tribute to depute head teacher Irene Nimmo, who died at her home in Motherwell on Friday, April 17.

Aged 55, she graduated from Jordanhill College of Education, Glasgow, in 1975 and worked in Firpark School for over 30 years. Irene was a talented teacher who inspired her colleagues and influenced the lives of hundreds of children, taking great pride in all of their achievements.

She showed a passionate concern for the welfare of children with additional support needs, undertaking particular responsibility within school for child protection.

Irene was a qualified Guide leader and spent many hours preparing for, and leading Rainbow Guide meetings and camps.

She played an active part in the worship and music of her church where she was an elder, and church choir member.

Her talents were many, and she brought an extremely high level of skill, dedication and enthusiasm to all the activities in which she was involved. Her friends and colleagues will remember her warmth, her loyalty, her selflessness, her laughter and above all her great sense of fun.

Irene showed great courage during her illness, working as long as she was able.
