’Well football initiative scores hit with pupils

THE latest Score Goals Initiative at Motherwell Football Club reached its conclusion on Friday, May 15, at Fir Park.

Motherwell’s head of youth development Gordon Young was on hand to present the awards to the secondary school pupils who successfully completed the course.

The initiative aims to teach kids about social and life skills, drugs awareness, the promotion of fitness, community relations and behaviour. Schools are free to choose young people between the ages of 12 and 14 years they feel would benefit the most from the scheme.

Wishaw Crime Reduction Officer Constable Dougie Denholm co-ordinates the course along with Motherwell’s SFA community coach and chief scout Bobby Jenks.

Constable Denholm said: “This course consisted of 18 school pupils from the North Lanarkshire Council area and 21 school pupils from the South Lanarkshire Council area. Both policing divisions in Lanarkshire and our fellow partner agencies are delighted to continue to support this initiative and the success of the programme is down to the effort and response of the pupils involved.”

Bobby Jenks added: “Motherwell Football Club continue to work closely with our partners and can deliver a quality programme that will benefit the local youngsters in the community.”

Agencies involved in the Motherwell FC/Strathclyde Police Score Goals Initiative include: NHS Lanarkshire, North Lanarkshire Council and Strathclyde Fire and Rescue.

Schools involved in the Score Goals Initiative included Clyde Valley High, St Aidan’s High, Braidhurst High, Brannock High, Our Lady’s High, and Taylor High.
