Walk this way!
THE children from Berryhill Primary took part in a Walking Bus as part of the National Walk to School Week event.
A Walking Bus is like a normal bus – just without the bus!
There was a ‘driver’ at the front and a ‘conductor’ at the back (specially trained parents). It took the same route to school every day and picked the kids up along the way.
For children, the Walking Bus is great. They get exercise, fresh air and have fun with their friends even before their school day starts. For parents it’s a dream, knowing your children have arrived at school safely and on time.
The children of Berryhill also wished to raise awareness of Road safety and this was achieved by carrying banners and posters with road safety messages.
A sponsored walk round the school was also organised to raise money for school funds and fresh fruit was provided for the walkers by ‘Getting Better Together’, a Shotts based project.
Healthy refreshments were provided by the Parent Council.
