YOUNG poets from schools in Wishaw were among the children who entertained large audiences at the Arts Guild Poetry Festival in Coatbridge recently.
Pupils from Muirhouse Primary and St Thomas’ Primary participated in stimulating and creative workshops with such national figures as author Matthew Fitt.
As a result of Matthew’s work, a number of the poems were powerful Scots poems reflecting the full range and diversity of the Scots language.
All the children who took part in the two nights of the festival will have their poems produced in a poetry anthology to be published later this year by publishers Reigart.
And each participant, and their school, will be presented with an individual copy of this anthology – a truly significant memento of their achievement.
Councillor Jim Logue, Convener of Learning and Leisure services, said: “North Lanarkshire Council is committed to extending such opportunities for achievement in the Arts.”
