Crackdown blocks prisoners' mobiles

Mobile phone blockers are to be used as part of a crackdown on underworld bosses running their criminal empires from jail, it has been confirmed.

Sentences of up to two years are also being lined up in the most serious cases, to deal with jailed crimelords using mobiles. The current maximum sentence is 30 days.

The sentencing shake-up is part of the forthcoming Criminal Justice and Licensing Bill, with the blockers to run alongside this.
