Council add up cost of members’ total wages bill

THE expenses of all of North Lanarkshire councillors for the 2007-2008 financial year have been released.

And the total bill was £1,227,337.

On top of wages, there was an additional £251,373 which covered various expenses – such as travel, telephones, IT, subsistence and other costs.

That means the total bill for salary and expenses was £1,478,710, and, after tax and National Insurance deductions of £317,820, that leaves a net total of £1,160,890.

Wishaw currently has four councillors and their salaries and total expenses before tax and National Insurance deductions were: Sam Love £15,373 and £4079; Frank Mackay £14,013 and £1662; Clare Adamson £14,013 and £1274; John Pentland £24,279 and £2591.

Also in the Wishaw Press area, the salaries and expenses of councillors in the Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig ward were: Kaye Harmon £14,013 and £690; Thomas Lunny £15,373 and £1608; Linsey McKay £14,013 and £581; Alan Valentine £15,005 and £102.

In the Murdostoun ward the councillors’ salaries and expenses were: Robert McKendrick £14,013 and £2701; James Martin £23,788 and £2019; Nicky Shevlin £14,013 and £1822; John Taggart £14,013 and £1508.

In the Motherwell North ward the salaries and expenses were: Annita McAuley £15,197 and £1263; Helen McKenna £23,788 and £2891;Peter Nolan £14,013 and £2188; Gordon Stewart £14,013 and £2083.

The salaries and expenses of councillors in Motherwell West were: Paul Kelly £14,013 and £1164; Michael Ross £24,279 and £2859; Annette Valentine £14,013 and £179.

In the Fortissat ward the salaries and expenses were: Charles Cefferty £15,005 and £18,566; Malcolm McMillan £14,013 and £2627; James Robertson £23,788 and £5617.
