ST JOHN’S Church in Carluke are pleased to welcome a new minister to lead the congregation next month.
After months of searching, the church will be joined by Reverend Roy Cowieson on May 3.
In February, Reverend Cowieson preached to a packed church as nominee to the vacant charge.
The congregation voted overwhelmingly to elect him to the position.
And now, after all the formalities have been completed, he will take up the post, which has been vacant since Rev Mike Frew went to an Edinburgh charge last November.
The service of induction will be conducted by members of Lanark Presbytery in St John’s Church on Thursday, May 3, at 7pm.
After the formal proceedings, there will be an induction social to welcome Roy and his wife, Christine, to the church family.
All are warmly invited to both events.
The following Sunday, May 6, Roy will be “preached in” to the charge by the Rev Alastair J. Cherry of St Andrews Church, Penilees, Glasgow.
Rev Cowieson brings to St John’s a preaching and teaching gift that has been honed through experience gained in a North American church culture.
He promises to challenge the congregation to rise to higher levels of involvement both within the walls of the church as well as in the community outside.
