Wishaw teen dies in holiday roof plunge

WISHAW teenager Aidan Millar plunged to his death when he clambered onto a roof and fell through a skylight.

The popular 18-year-old was killed following the accident at Girvan Swimming Pool just after midnight last Monday, July 21.

His father Tommy Millar (46) told the Wishaw Press how the family holiday ended in tragedy.

He said: “It had been Aidan, his brother Matthew and his friend on the roof, and Aidan stepped where he shouldn’t have, and the next thing I remember, I was trying to save him.

“I tried to help the ambulance guys. They did all they could. I will always think I could have done more, but I tried.”

The former St Aidan’s High pupil died just days after his 18th birthday party.

Tommy added: “He had his 18th birthday party on the Friday night at the Cascade Bar, and then we went on holiday on the Saturday.

“One of my last memories is asking him if the party was okay for him, and he put his arm around me and said he had the time of his life.

“But the last memory I have is trying to save him on the pavement.”
