Dalziel flood the try line in rain-soaked victory
DALZIEL got back to winning ways on Saturday with a convincing 28-5 win over Morgan Academy at rain-soaked Dalziel Park.
Conditions were difficult for all involved, with the constant rain washing away some of the line markings, which in one case denied Morgan a score when a foot was put over where the line should have been.
Dalziel secured the bonus point win through tries from captain Craig Simmonds, Gavin Smith, George Sloan and Victor Czarnocki.
Full Back Robert Simpson added eight points through a conversion and two penalties, while Morgan Academy could only manage a second-half try through Knox.
The win moved Dalziel up to third behind Kirkcaldy and Lasswade in Premier Three.
The Second XV, however, were unable to continue their winning run, with a 33-7 defeat to Selkirk A.
From kick-off, Selkirk took the game to Dalziel and ran in three converted tries in the first 15 minutes.
Dalziel then upped their game and stemmed the flow, earning a few penalties. Stuart McLelland took one quickly and powered over the line from 5m, leaving Scott Johnstone to convert and take the score to 21-7 at half-time.
During the second half, Dalziel had periods of sustained pressure but failed to capitalise, while Selkirk ran in two late scores to seal their win.
With Musselburgh failing to secure a bonus point win, Dalziel remained top of Reserve National Two by a single point.
The Third XV lost 19-8 away to GHA to chalk-up their second defeat in a row in Reserve West Pod C.
Euan Watt grabbed the only try for the Dazzlers, while Davie Stewart kicked a penalty.
Next week sees the First and Second XVs travel to Giffnock to play GHA. The Third XV host Cambuslang’s Second XV at Dalziel Park and the Fourth XV are at Laigh Bent to play Hamilton’s Third XV.
