Newmains United's injury crisis ahead of Rossvale clash

Newmains United

Newmains United face an injury crisis this weekend with up to six first-team players doubtful for the away clash against Rossvale.

Andy Millen (ankle), Stevie McAvoy (ankle), Stevie Barker (foot) Andrew Rankin (groin), Gary Murdoch (thigh/hamstring) and Ian Miller (hamstring) are all likely to be on the sidelines this weekend as boss Ian Rankin looks to stear his side towards mid-table in Central Division Two.

He said: “We have got a few problems but we just have to deal with it and do the best we can. The guys that come in have got to work hard and try to keep the jersey.

“On a positive front, Stevie Barker originally feared he had fractured his foot but received good news on it and, hopefully, we can see him back before the year’s end.”

Rossvale and Newmains will square up at Petershill’s 3G complex on Saturday.

Rankin (above) added: “It will be a difficult game. They have started very well and we just need to remain focused and concentrate on our own game.

“We want to try and keep in among the pack in mid-table. That is the incentive. The team spirit is still there and we have put our previous loss to Vale of Clyde behind us.”
