Two youth team footballers have been celebrating a fantastic final season at under 17 level having helped Murieston United Girls to victory in the Scottish Cup this month.
Calderhead High duo Kirsten Frew and Fiona Boslem starred in their team’s stunning run to this year’s final which ended with a stunning 3-0 victory over Glasgow Girls. Lifting the trophy was made all the sweeter after they knocked out defending champions Celtic in round one which was a repeat of last year’s final.
What’s more victory in the final came just days after both girls celebrated their 17th birthday. Star striker Kirsten scored a sensational 35 yard strike in the semi-finals in a narrow 1-0 win over Rangers. The Shotts girl, who has been at Murieston for eight years, said: “It was a great birthday present for both of us. Scoring the goal against Rangers was amazing. I remember there were two defenders round me but I just hit the ball hoping for the best and it ended up in the net.”
Sweeper Fiona from Allanton said: “We were so happy to win and now I can’t wait to step up to senior level at Murieston next year. Winning the cup was fantastic, especially after we were beaten 7-2 in last year’s final against Celtic.”
Murieston are looking for a goalkeeper and outfield players (aged 16 and over). If interested contact coach Ryan on 07970837014 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
