WISHAW Bowling Club celebrated an historic victory at the weekend when they won their annual ‘friendly’ match against Maxwelltown Bowling Club in Dumfries.
The event was established in 1958 when Wishaw man, Mr D Brockbank, moved to Dumfries to become a bank manager and decided to retain some ties with his hometown.
The match has been contested every year since but to celebrate the Millennium in 2000 a special trophy to commemorate the match was introduced.
Until the recent victory Wishaw Bowling Club had never managed to get their hands on the famous trophy but members are determined to hold on to it for as long as possible.
