THE ladies section of Shotts Ironworks Bowling Club celebrated their 50th anniversary with a civic reception hosted by North Lanarkshire Council's Depute Provost James Robertson last month.
The 70-strong ladies section was established in July, 1958, by wives of club officials.
The club is renowned in the local area for its charity work which includes local hospices and Wishaw General Hospital cardiac care and, in recent years, found national press fame by becoming Calendar Girls all in the name of charity!
Depute Provost Robertson said: “It is a privilege to attend civic receptions such as these, especially when an organisation devotes so much time and energy into helping the local community and supporting local charities.
“Many visiting bowling teams to the Shotts club have commented on the tremendous hospitality and home baking provided by the ladies section whenever they attend on competition and match days and how much they look forward to their visits.”
And the depute provost added: “It is my pleasure, on behalf of the council, to help mark the Ladies Bowling Club’s 50th anniversary.”
