Junior pairs event is a great success

CASTLEHILL Bowling Club held their first open junior pairs tournament recently.

There were five visiting teams at the event with 13 pairs taking part overall.

The weather held fair on the day (Sunday, September 21) with sunshine encouraging a number of supporters to the tournament.

The overall winners on the day were Scott Doran and Jonathan Cragens from Raploch Bowling Club.

They defeated Lanark Waterloo Bowling Club pair Gordon Simpson and Malcolm Craig.

The beaten semi-finalists were Gemma Shepherd and Megan Ross of Abronhill Bowling Club and Chloe Mutumha and Lauren Forgie from Castlehill.

The day was supported by John Galloway who donated a shield for the tournament and two other generous sponsors who along with John donated the prize money.

The Junior section is very grateful for the generosity and the support that these people have given to this event.

An encouraging aspect of the tournament was the number of young people participating in bowls and the fact they were supported and recognised by adults outside the bowling club.

Organisers would like to thank the Junior Sub Committee who ran the event for the Junior Convenor, Amanda Muncie, the kitchen staff for keeping everyone fed and the juniors who helped out in the tuck shop.
