Cambusnethan win carpet bowling title

THE 16th annual Newmains Gala Day carpet bowls tournament took place in St Brigid’s Parish Centre earlier this month.

As always the event, provided keen competition and a high standard of bowling from all eight teams involved.

A familiar name, Cambusnethan Miners ‘A’, secured victory after defeating St Brigid’s ‘B’ team in the final.

Councillor Robert McKendrick presented the trophy as well as a bottle of whisky to winning skip Derek Kerr. Other players in the winning team were Roddie McCarrison, David Ker and Billy Hill.

The runners-up were Jean Wemyss, George Price, John Phillips and skip Thomas Thomson.

All players paid special credit to the ladies of St Brigid Bowling Club, who provided excellent catering for the evening.

North Lanarkshire Council sponsored the event through their Community Grant scheme.
