A WISHAW football team have raised £650 for charity after taking part in the sixth Childline World Footie tournament in Glasgow recently.
PSV Pather, who were representing Spain in the tournament, were one of 18 teams competing to raise money for Childline Scotland in the country’s largest charity football event held at Powerleague, Townhead.
The Wishaw five-a-side team had some mixed results and in the end it was a team from Kilmarnock, representing Costa Rica, who lifted the sixth annual World Footie trophy.
Pather skipper John Montgomery said: “This is our third year in World Footie.
“In 2007, we finished in third place and had such a fantastic time we’ve been taking part ever since.
“We’ve raised £650 this year for ChildLine. It’s an excellent cause which we’re delighted to support.”
Samantha Bagg, the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children corporate fundraising manager, said: “The teams that signed up had a cracking day of football and their efforts have so far raised a brilliant £13,500.
“I’d like to thank everyone who supported the event, whether they were cheering from the sidelines, donating prizes or buying raffle tickets.
“The money raised on Saturday will help us reach more children and young people in need of support, protection and help.”
