DEADLY DOZEN FROM WISHAW
THERE might have been a few sore heads after seven Wishaw High School FP players missed Saturdays game for a stag weekend but the only headache management has is a selection problem.
That comes after fringe men from the squad stepped in for Saturdays West of Scotland Cup clash and rattled a deadly dozen goals past hapless Ashvale Vics.
The FPs were without key personnel as midfielder David McCluskey and another six players headed to Whitley Bay for his stag bash but the men who turned out at the King George V park for the cup cracker no doubt raised a few glasses themselves after their remarkable demolition job.
However, although FPs coach Gus Boyle was over the moon with the 12-1 victory he was quick to keep players feet on the ground as they return to league duty this weekend against Steadfast AFC.
And he knows that management has a tough selection job as players return to fight for a place. He said:We have to put the display into perspective and without being disrespectful to Ashvale Vics they didnt really trouble us.
Scoring the goals we did today should give us lots of confidence and it gives us a headache selection wise for next week with another seven players back who were all away at David McCluskeys stag weekend at Whitley Bay, and who will all be available for selection.
Wishaw dominated the game so much that not one but two players managed to notch up hat-tricks, with forward Mark Jamieson and midfielder Gary Miller leading the scoring. Midfielder Scott Donald and forward Alan Patrick each managed to grab a brace while midfield duo Stephen King and Brett Ansell got the other two goals.
And there was more good news for the FPs when long-term injury victim Steven Murdoch, who had been missing for three months with ankle ligament damage, made his return to the midfield. Unfortunately he never managed to bag a goal.
This Saturday, the FPs are at home to Steadfast AFC in the Central Scottish AFL at the King George V park in Wishaw with a 2pm kick-off.
And following that 12-1 victory the FPs have been drawn away against Greater Glasgow Premier League outfit Giffnock Soccer Centre in the third round of the Scottish Amateur Cup. This match is scheduled to take place on November 7.
