WISHAW High School FPs recorded an impressive result at the weekend with a 5-2 victory over Steadfast AFC in their Central Scottish AFL Division 1A clash.
The FPs started the match well at Wishaw Sports Centre and Brett Ansell should have done better when he screwed his shot wide from the edge of the penalty box after a neat through ball from Mark Jamieson in eight minutes.
The home side went ahead on 22 minutes when a Stephen King cutback found Gary Miller at the edge of the box and the midfielder’s fierce low drive hit the inside of the post before finding the back of the net. Right on the half-time whistle Steadfast got themselves back level when Kris Lucas headed a corner in from six yards. It didn't take the FPs long to get themselves back in front after the restart as Gerry Jamieson escaped the clutches of his marker to rise powerfully and head a well met corner kick from Scott Donald to put them 2-1 ahead.
On 50 minutes Gary Miller had a 30 yard effort well saved but soon after the goalkeeper dropped a cross at the feet of Mark Jamieson and he stroked the ball home to make it 3-1.
Gary Miller wasted no time in rifling a 35 yard effort back over the top of the keeper into the empty net to give the FPs back their two goal cushion
Five minutes later Miller was denied his hat-trick when Dunne managed to push his well hit volley to safety but Miller capped a fine performance when he managed his third with five minutes remaining when his fiercely hit 25 yarder made the score 5-2.
This Saturday Wishaw HSFPs play Giffnock in the Scottish Amateur Cup Third Round. Kick-off 2pm.
