Villareal’s visit

MOTHERWELL will play Villarreal at Fir Park in a match that will honour the club’s late captain, Phil O’Donnell.

The match against the Spanish side, who finished second in La Liga last season, will take place on August 2, kicking off at 3pm.

A pre-match ceremony will be held during which the main stand at Fir Park will be renamed the Phil O’Donnell stand.

Half the proceeds from the showpiece match will be donated to an educational trust which has been set up through the club for the benefit of Phil’s four children.

Motherwell chairman John Boyle said: “We are very pleased that Villarreal, who are an outstanding European team and a great club, accepted our invitation to play at Fir Park in this pre-season match.”
