BOB MALCOLM is set to sign a new deal to remain at Fir Park for the next 12 months.
The no-nonsense utility player, who took on a key role in the middle of the park for Motherwell towards the end of last season, was weighing up his options throughout the summer.
However, he reported in for pre-season training this week.
And it is believed the 27-year-old will sign on the dotted line before the club fly out to their pre-season training camp in Austria on Sunday.
Manager Mark McGhee said: “I have spoken to Bob and he has agreed to sign on again for next season.
“It is a big boost for everybody at the club.
“Once Bob gets a full pre-season under his belt, then he will prove to be a very important player for us.
“Bob offers us something different in the midfield and that was why we did everything we could to try and keep him.”
Meanwhile, McGhee will cast his eye over a Spanish midfielder plus a centre-half and goalkeeper from Germany during their Austrian pre-season training stint next week.
He said: "We will have a couple of German lads and a Spanish lad who are going to be training with us over the coming weeks.
"The Spanish boy has come through the youth ranks with Real Madrid.
“He has played for their reserve team and has been farmed out to a side in the Third Division over there.
"However, he is obviously going to have his work cut out making it at the La Liga champions and is looking for another club.
"The German goalie we are looking at is an established player while the centre-half has played in Germany and in Greece.”
