Clean sweep for the girls

THERE were victories for all four Motherwell Girls teams at the weekend.

The under 13s recorded an amazing 17-0 win against bottom of the table Stirling.

This win means that Motherwell leapfrog Falkirk Ladies and now sit proudly at the top of the table having recorded seven straight wins.

The under 13s Academy team continued their impressive start to the season recording a 6-0 away win against Falkirk Blues and they move up to fourth place in the league.

Meanwhile, the under 15s consolidated their place at the top of the league with a 4-2 win over a much improved Drumchapel side.

Congratulations to Heather Richards and Carolina Richardson who have been selected for the Scotland under 15s squad that travels south to play Wales next week.

To complete a great weekend for the Motherwell Girls, the under 17s visited Edinburgh on Sunday and played a Hibs team desperate to avenge the 5-1 defeat they suffered on the first day of the season.

Both teams started strongly but it was Motherwell who took the lead through captain Lucy Clark.

Then, Maxine McCrindle beat the keeper with a terrific shot from just inside the Hibs half to make the score 2-0 at half-time.

Hibs pulled one back early in the second half to ensure an exciting finale. With 15 minutes to go Eilidh McIntyre scored Motherwell’s third with a run from just inside the Hibs half, sprinting past the defence, before beating the goalie at her front post, ensuring a 3-1 victory and all the points for Motherwell.

This was a big win for the girls, who are now unbeaten in five games and have overtaken Hibs to go second in the table behind Dunfermline.

The girls take on Hutchie Vale at King George Fifth Park, Wishaw on Sunday, November 9 at 2pm.
