Motherwell crash to leaders Celtic

Celtic 2 Motherwell 0

MOTHERWELL'S good run of form came to a shuddering halt on Saturday after a 2-0 defeat by league leaders Celtic at Parkhead.

Despite a promising start, the Fir Park side went down to goals from Paul Hartley and former 'Well striker Scott McDonald.

Indeed, Motherwell had chances to take an early lead through John Sutton whose shot was cleared by Celtic's Shaun Maloney - although Well players claimed the ball had crossed the line.

Celtic were handed the initiative seconds before half-time when Paul Hartley netted for the home side. And Motherwell's afternoon got worse about 10 minutes after the restart when David Clarkson was sent off for an altercation with Celtic youngster Paul Caddis.

Late on, former Motherwell favourite McDonald wrapped up the points for Celtic with the kind of well-placed finish which made him such a favourite during his time at Fir Park.
