STEVEN Hughes earned Motherwell a Homecoming Scottish Cup replay with a second-half equaliser after Andy Dorman had rounded goalkeeper Graeme Smith to put the Saints one up on 12 minutes.
Hughes levelled the match with a powerful effort that passed Mark Howard on 65 minutes. After the Saints had held out from immense Motherwell pressure they could have snatched a win in the closing stages when Scott Cuthbert had a close range shot saved by Graeme Smith.
On-loan Celtic striker Cillian Sheridan added a spark into Motherwell’s play as he was handed his debut by replacing Keith Lasley at half-time.
Both managers agreed that the pitch was against the run of play as it had a huge effect on the game with Mark McGhee saying it didn’t get his team to play as normal. The two sides will meet again in Paisley on Tuesday 17th February.
