Steelmen sign deal with new kit supplier

MOTHERWELL have signed a four-year contract with kit supplier Canterbury of New Zealand.

The deal with one of the world’s leading sports brands will see Motherwell wearing a new first-team kit and training gear as well as using Canterbury’s BaseLayer products, beginning at the start of next season.

Already well-known in Scotland for being kit partner of the Scottish national rugby team, Canterbury entered the football market for the first time in 2007 with English Premier League side Portsmouth.

Subsequent deals have followed with European sides Deportivo La Coruna, Lille and AZ Alkmaar.

Canterbury have also established official BaseLayer partnerships with the likes of Rangers and Hearts.

Motherwell manager Mark McGhee said: "I am delighted that the club has managed to secure such a well-known, respected worldwide brand to manufacture and produce our kits for next season.

"I have been given details of some of the technical elements to the garments that we will be provided with and anything that manages to get a few more per cent out of the players on a matchday is a very welcome addition.”

PSL Team Sports, the club’s official retail partner, have been instrumental in developing Canterbury's brand in the rugby, cricket and hockey team wear markets in Scotland.

More recently, they have introduced the Canterbury brand and the firm’s technically advanced kit to the football market.

Rennie Keith, PSL sales director, said: “Bringing a brand of this stature to the club will be exciting for the supporters as well and we look forward to the unveiling of the new range at the 'Well Shop."

Mostyn Thomas, marketing director at Canterbury of New Zealand said: "Following years of association with rugby in Scotland, we are delighted to announce our first football kit agreement with Motherwell Football Club.

"As an SPL side, the club will also provide us with great exposure and help to engage with a new audience.“
