Motherwell girls' teams make it through to Scottish Cup finals

MOTHERWELL FC Girls under 13s, 15s and 17s took part in their respective Scottish Cup semi-finals last weekend.

Two of the three teams made it through to the final with the under 13s and under 15s securing wins in their last-four ties that took place in Stirling.

Missing out were the under 17s who lost 3-2 to Rangers. After falling behind to an early goal, Motherwell went 2-1 in front with goals from Lucy Clark and Eilidh McIntyre.

Rangers pulled a goal back just before half-time and then took the lead just after.

Motherwell had a couple of chances to get back into the game but, unfortunately, could not get the equaliser which would have taken the game into extra time.

The under 15s secured an excellent 2-1 victory over Arbroath Inchcape.

The ‘Well took the lead through Julie Sirrell who chipped the keeper from the edge of the box.

A second half goal from Carolina Richardson, scoring from close range after meeting a Julie Sirrell cross, gave Motherwell the decisive second goal.

A late consolation for Arbroath three minutes from time made the final few minutes nailbiting for Motherwell but they held on to reach the final which will be played in three weeks time.

Motherwell FC Girls under 13s were the most convincing winners with a 6-0 victory over Forfar's Real Farmington. Three goals in each half were enough for Motherwell to progress to a final against Kilwinning Buffs, who themselves beat East Kilbride 7-2.

A hat-trick for Carla Jackson and goals from Deborah McLeod, Nadine Traynor and Caitlin McLean made this a comfortable victory against a strong Real Farmington side who had gone into the game confident of progressing to the final.

Motherwell however were deserving winners and now look forward to their final.
