MOTHERWELL FC Girls lost out in their bids to capture the under-13 and under-15 Scottish Cups at Toryglen on Sunday.
The under-13s succumbed narrowly to Kilwinning side KSC Buffs, going down 3-2, but the under-15s were defeated 6-0 by an impressive and more experienced Hibernian Girls outfit.
The under-13 game started with Motherwell on the back foot as KSC Buffs moved the ball up and down the park much more quickly than their opponents.
However, against the run of play, Motherwell took the lead when Amy Anderson managed to squeeze the ball past the Kilwinning goalkeeper midway through the first half.
’Well showed an improvement in the second half but were still being overshadowed by KSC Buffs, who scored two quick goals to move into a 2-1 lead.
Carla Jackson grabbed an equaliser for Motherwell when a Demi Coelho shot was only parried by the keeper and she nipped in to level the scores.
But with extra time looking likely, KSC Buffs secured a last-minute winner when Motherwell failed to chase a ball out on the bye-line.
A Kilwinning forward took advantage, nipping in to collect the ball before firing it past Danielle McNamara to win the cup.
Kilwinning were deserved winners on the day but credit to the Motherwell team for reaching the final and almost taking the game into extra time.
Motherwell's under-15 side were next to take centre stage up against a very strong Hibs team full of players who were Scottish Cup winners at this same age group last season.
The game started evenly, with Motherwell having the first scoring opportunity through Sam Pattison, but her shot went just over the bar.
Hibs were coming more and more into the game with their quick passing and moving and this led to the favourites scoring three first-half goals without reply.
It was the same story after the interval as Hibs continued to dominate the match, scoring a further three goals as they secured a convincing 6-0 victory.
The Edinburgh side fully deserved their victory but Motherwell can take heart from the fact the girls reached the final in their first year playing at under-15 level, while most of the Hibs side will make the step up to under-17 level next season.
