Par-tee time for Shotts golf ladies

SHOTTS Golf Club ladies section was recently invited along to a civic celebration to mark the clubs centenary year by North Lanarkshire Council Provost Tom Curley.

The reception was held at the Civic Centre in Motherwell on Friday, December 5, and the provost was joined by leader of the council Jim McCabe in congratulating the golf section on this memorable occasion.

Shotts golf club was formed in 1895 with the ladies section, which in its early days was largely made up of the wives and daughters of the gentleman members, being formed 13 years later in 1908.

The ladies golf section as well are well know in the local community for their charitable fundraising efforts and have this year supported local organisations Lanarkshire Cancer Care and St Andrew’s Hospice.

Welcoming the ladies section Provost Curley said: “It is a privilege to attend civic receptions such as this one for the ladies golf section centenary.

“And it is extra special when such an organisation and it's members devotes so much time and energy to promoting social events and fundraising initiatives within the local community.”
